back on the wagon

Or is that back off the wagon? I've never really understood the wagon analogy, to be honest.

But I digress. This week it's back to the usual training regime after slacking all of last week. That means the usual 3 hour Monday night trek (which I'll ride my bike to and from) and a trail run and ropes practice tomorrow. The usual training regime is pretty tiring, but I'm looking forward to it anyway.

Ask me if that's still true on Thursday.

So having fallen off the wagon many times myself...here is a few legends to the origin of the word. Either one you believe, if you are off, you have fallen to temptation. 1. The group that would collect and bring alchoholics to the shelter each morning by picking them up and putting them "on the wagon" they used, had some get off or fall off to continue or begin drinking again. To "fall off the wagon" was to return to drinking or "go on a bender" after a period of sobriety.

    2. when prisoners were being escorted, by wagon (in much older times) to where they were to be executed the guards would stop at a pub and give them a final drink. After their drink the bartender would ask if they wanted another and the guards would say "No, he's On The Wagon".
